June Safety Roundtable
June 2026 Safety Roundtable
About this event
June 2026 Safety Roundtable:
Please join IEC Dallas for our upcoming Safety Roundtable, topic of discussion this month will be heat illness prevention and case management.
In the United States, extreme heat is the leading weather-related cause of death; an estimated 2,300 people in the United States died from extreme heat in 2023, triple the annual average and likely an undercount. While extreme heat is dangerous for many vulnerable populations, it is especially dangerous for more than half the world’s workforce that labors outside, primarily in agriculture and construction.
The construction industry accounts for about 34 percent of all occupational heat-related deaths.
There is no nationwide regulation requiring employers to safeguard against heat-related hazards and health risks to employees in the workplace; though in August 2024, OSHA published a notice of proposed rulemaking for the first ever major federal regulation that would impose such duties.
